Cal-Ga-Crete was founded in 1963 by engineering designer Mr. Frederick Gates. The Ga in Cal-Ga-Crete originated from the first 2 letters of Mr. Gates name. The founder had a distinguished career including working for a defense aviation company during WW II, a pre-fab homes manufacturer, a real estate developer and a cement manufacturer. Mr. Gates quickly developed an impressive range of concrete tile products. Most of these are still available today. During the later 1960’s Mr. Gates sold licenses to mostly foreign entrepreneurs for the purpose of manufacturing a limited number of Cal-Ga-Crete in their respective locales.

Mr. Gates managed to include Cal-Ga-Crete products with the final project Mr. Walt Disney personally supervised, the Pirates of Caribbean and New Orleans Square at Anaheim Disneyland. The Walt Disney Company has been a loyal user of Cal-Ga-Crete products ever since. Other early noteworthy projects include Ports ‘O Call in San Pedro, CA, Tishman Plaza, Los Angeles, CA and Fisherman’s Warf Sheraton Hotel, San Francisco, CA. Mr Gates was also successful in placing Cal-Ga-Crete products in celebrity’s homes such as John Wayne, Dick van Dyke, Sandy Koufax and Michael Landon. Many of these historical Cal-Ga-Crete projects were remodeled out of existence but some are still in use today.

In recent years the company focused on updating and expanding its product line. In 2002 Cal-Ga-Crete acquired the assets of Stonekrete Tile Products adding new production capabilities and a contemporary design element to its product offering. Major accomplishments include this website, becoming a founding member of the Concrete Tile Manufacturers Association and actively participating in the development of the first industry recognized uniform specification for manufacturing and installing pre-cast concrete tile products.
